For millennia, humans looked to the night sky for guidance.
We know that the Mayans, the Egyptians, the Indians and many other First peoples followed the movements of the planets and the stars to make important decisions here on Earth. These ancient civilizations knew that what happens in the cosmos impacts our inner world and they celebrated the cycles with reverence through rituals.
Although astrology is still somewhat popular today, through the disconnection of the natural rhythms, modern culture seems to have forgotten the importance of honouring cosmic events.
One of these special yearly events is Lion’s Gate Portal, also referred to as 8/8.
Lion’s Gate Portal is said to begin to open July 28th and close August 12th, but its activation is on the 8th of August, when the Sun (already in zodiac sign Leo) and Sirius move closest to Earth and align with Orion’s Belt, according to Astrologist Miriam Lapp.
Astrologer Kayse Budd, M.D. says “During the Lion’s Gate portal, Sirius separates sufficiently from the sun to come into view. Since Sirius is the brightest star in our night sky, some ancient mystics believed it infuses the earth with extra energy and light.”
Whilst numerologist Kaitlyn Kaerhart explains that “ancient Egyptians worshipped Sirius as the goddess Sopdet, celebrating Sirius’ return in the morning sky as the start of the farming season and the beginning of a new year.” and adds: “This creates a powerful portal of energy, which is potent for manifesting”.
As star Sirius is known as our “spiritual sun,” is said to provide spiritual nourishment (per Forever Conscious).
This is a sacred time during which we are given an opportunity to be reborn.
As Sirius radiates its light, it showers us with its ancient wisdom and we can use it to support our ascension process towards higher states of consciousness and new ways of being.
Just as the snake sheds its old skin to give place to its new skin, we must be willing to let go of old ways of being to evolve into more conscious versions of ourselves.
The first step in our evolution journey is self-awareness. As uncomfortable as this can be, the only way we can evolve is if we are willing to look at ourselves as we are in this precise moment. In this process compassion and acceptance are essential as otherwise we may be victims of our own desire to grow and end up falling into old patterns of self-criticism, which do not benefit ourselves nor the whole.
Simple ways to harness the potent energy of this portal:
Since the beginning of time humans have celebrated new beginnings. Different traditions have their own ways but mostly they involved gatherings, story telling, singing, dancing and sharing food. If there is a special Lion’s Gate gathering near you, join in and if there isn’t why not organise one?! It doesn’t need to be fancy or complicated. Gather with one or more friends, new friends and celebrate this special date through any of the aforementioned practices.
Whether you have a regular meditation practice or you have never meditated before, this day 8/8 is a great time to start. Here I share with you a video I recorded some time ago with 5 simple tips for beginners:
If you have meditated before, you may agree with me that it is not always easeful, and there are definitely times that feel easier than others. Well, with Sirius’s bright light over us, these times are beneficial for spiritual practices.
- Sadhana (spiritual practice)
If you do not already have a daily spiritual practice, this is a great time to start. Starting can be daunting, but here I share with you an article I wrote to share some tips for those interested in getting started.
If you already have a daily spiritual practice, this is a great time to review it and consider updating it to support your spiritual evolution.
- Self-inquiry, guided journaling
As this portal is inviting us to grow exponentially, it is a good time to ask ourselves
– Where in my life am I playing small?
– What limiting beliefs are holing me back?
– How can I support my personal and spiritual growth?
These simple questions are crucial in our evolution process but they are not enough of course. Once we have answered these questions, it is important to commit to ourselves to implement the changes we know we need to make, in order to go forth with our evolution process.
My recommendation for accountability is to write a list of things you want to implement for this new cycle and to place it somewhere you know you will see daily. I personally review my list of aspirations, goals and commitments every Lunar cycle and I find that it helps me stay on track.
I want to conclude firstly by thanking you for reading and for your interest in this cosmic event as I believe it is a sign of spiritual expansion, which fills my heart with joy and hope. I also want to reiterate that the information shared in this article is based on what I have heard, red and experienced, so please take what resonates and leave the rest behind.
I hope this article will be useful for some and if you feel inspired to share and comment, please don’t be shy, I love to connect with like spirited hearts 🙂
I also want to gift You a 75min Yin Yoga practice focused on ‘Shining the light of consciousness from within.’
Las but not least, I will be co-guiding a 200hour Yoga Teacher Training in Bacalar, Mexico in October with my dear sister Rachael and we are offering a special discount to celebrate this special date. You can find more information about the training here.
